Testimony (2022)

Wind Ensemble

Program Notes

This piece is an arrangement of the solo piano piece that I wrote. This chorale isn’t technically challenging in terms of rapid notes or syncopated rhythms, but it demands the utmost control and intonation from it’s players. It also requires a maturity of playing that means that whilst it is a piece of probably medium difficulty, it is greatly enhanced by more advanced players and the emotion they can bring.

What is a testimony? A testimony is a statement, a solemn declaration of what one believes or knows to be true. A testimony is a witness to the world of who you are. Whoever we are and from whatever walks of life we may come from, we all have something to testify of. It may be a testimony of the love you have for those around you, a testimony of the divine, a testimony of what it means to be the good you want to see in the world. I was asked to write my testimony in music and this piece is the result of that. It begins with the quiet and reverent and journeys through to the grand and noble, representing all types of testimonies. Whatever it is you believe in, whatever it is that makes up you, this piece is for you to testify of it to the world.
