Hamish Reeves brings new energy to Charlie Parker’s bebop classic Ornithology, arranged here with a lively swing feel at around 200 bpm. The chart features section solis for saxophones, trumpets, and trombones, plus space for an improvised tenor sax solo (easily reassigned to another instrument if needed) and a brief piano feature.
The lead trumpet part reaches up to a written D♯ above the staff, though only for the final note, with most of the range topping out at a written B above the staff. A timeless jazz standard, this arrangement makes Ornithology an exciting, must-have addition to any developing jazz ensemble’s repertoire.
